Council Capital Sells Stake in Senior Whole Health

Acquired by TA Associates

11/15/2011

Nashville, Tenn., Nov. 15, 2011 – Council Capital, a Nashville-based private equity firm focusing on investments in early growth and growth companies in the healthcare services and healthcare technology sectors, has sold its interest in Senior Whole Health to TA Associates, another private equity firm headquartered in Cambridge, MA.  Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Council Capital first invested in Senior Whole Health in 2004.  In 2008, Inc. Magazine named Senior Whole Health the #1 fastest-growing private company in the U.S. During the time of Council’s investment, Senior Whole Health grew from less than $500,000 of revenue in 2004 to over $300 million of revenue for the last twelve months.

“Senior Whole Health’s phenomenal financial success has been a direct result of the success the company has been able to demonstrate in both lowering cost and improving quality in healthcare. The company proved to be a prime example of how being on the right side of change in healthcare can build valuable companies for shareholders,” said Council Capital’s Managing General Partner, Katie Gambill.

Senior Whole Health is a senior care organization focused on coordinating health care benefits, social services and support services for seniors eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid (“dual eligibles”). A study commissioned by Massachusetts Medicaid reported that Senior Whole Health beneficiaries were 50% less likely to be admitted to nursing homes for custodial long term care, saving millions of dollars every year to the state. In addition, Senior Whole Health was rated the top health plan in the state of Massachusetts for the past three years in a row according to the CAHPS survey, which measures quality of care and customer satisfaction.

“As a small, start-up company in 2004, our team didn’t have all the expertise we needed. The CEO Council at Council Capital brought us expert advice on a variety of fronts and also helped with key industry introductions during our seven-year partnership,” said John Baackes, Senior Whole Health’s CEO.
