Cal Turner, Jr.
Cal is the retired Chairman and CEO of Dollar General Corporation, a chain of more than 6,000 neighborhood stores and $6 billion in annual sales. In 1988 President Ronald Regan presented Cal with the Presidential Award for Private Sector Initiatives. In 1994 he was awarded Financial World’s CEO of the Year bronze medallion. Cal currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Vanderbilt University and is Chairman of the Cal Turner Family Foundation. He is very interested in promoting literacy and education in Tennessee and Kentucky communities. Cal has served as the chairman of the board of the Nashville Chamber of Commerce and the Middle Tennessee YMCA. He also supports the Pyramid Program at the Owen Graduate School of Management, which sent 20 students to India to foster the growth of local communities. Cal earned his BA from Vanderbilt University in 1962 with cum laude distinction. After receiving his degree, Cal served as an officer in the United States Navy.
